The Virginia PTA sponsors training and advocacy events for the local and district leadership as well as the annual Convention or state-wide business meeting. All costs associated with events sponsored by the Virginia PTA are legitimate expenses to include in the annual budget of local PTA.

TRAINING EVENTS:

Special Training Events: Special training offered by the Virginia PTA or an organization supported by the Virginia PTA. Typically one-time training sessions or workshops on specific hot topics.

State Leadership Training Conference (LTC)
A two day session, on the campus of a Virginia college or university, offering a variety of workshops on basic PTA training and topics related to current issues. Meet PTA members and leaders from across the state and share ideas.

Leg/Ed Conference
A conference offered within the Leadership Training Conference (LTC) weekend, Leg/Ed is held to educate local PTAs about the Proposed Legislation Program and the discussion of current education/legislation topics.

Leadership Training Workshops
Held on the council, district, and region level to provide information, materials, and inspiration for those members who have accepted or are interested in accepting leadership roles on the state, region, district, council and local unit level. These conferences or workshops are open to all PTA members.

Ask your District Director or Council President when the next training workshops are conducted in your area, or if they can come out and do an executive board training for your leadership team.

MEETINGS

PTA Day at the General Assembly
Each year the Virginia PTA/PTSA meet in Richmond during the General Assembly to be briefed o the status of bills that have an impact on our program. Attendees are encouraged to meet with their legislators to share the PTA positions and seek support for our program.

District Annual Meetings (Mar-Apr)
Each District shall hold an annual meeting in the spring. These meetings may include elections, adoption of budgets, receipt of annual report and other agenda items as needed.

Legislation Meetings
District meetings held in March or April to review the preliminary proposed program and then again in in September to review the legislation program prior to local unit meetings where voting will take place.

Annual State Convention
The business meeting of the Virginia PTA/PTSA at which delegates approve state bylaws, elect state officers (in odd-numbered years), and attend workshops on emerging issues. Resolutions are presented that, if adopted by the convention body, establish the position of the state PTA.

Events Sponsored by National PTA

National PTA Convention
This is the business meeting of the National PTA at which delegates approve national bylaws, elect officers, and attend workshops on emerging issues. Resolutions that have been submitted by individuals, state and national committees are debated and voted on by the convention body. Information on the National Convention is mailed to each local unit in the winter.
