Honored at the Annual State Convention

I'm not telling you it's going to be easy,

Individuals whom volunteer their time and make a difference in children's lives are often not recognized or acknowledged. The Virginia PTA knows the importance of having volunteers in our schools and recognizes those outstanding volunteers through the Volunteer of the Year Award Program which selects an Elementary Volunteer of the Year and a Secondary Volunteer of the year. The recipients of the 2007 awards were honored at the State Convention in Portsmouth .

Athana Martin from Midlothian Virginia, the James River District, was selected as the Elementary Volunteer of the Year. Athana is married to Paul and has two children, Lauren and Ashley. Her local unit is Evergreen Elementary PTA where she has been the Vice President, Room Parent and After-school Enrichment Coordinator. Athana continually has a positive attitude and finds encouraging words for all she meets. She mentors to the children and is an excellent role model for them. She is always willing to help and truly happy to do so. Athana implements programs that assist in developing children emotionally, academically and physically. Her dedication and contributions to the children have earned her this award. Congratulations Athana and we thank you for making a difference!

Barbara Conley from Tabb Virginia, the Peninsula District, was selected as the Secondary Volunteer of the year. Barbara is married to Daniel and has one son, Mitchell. Her local unit is Tabb High School PTSA where she currently is serving as Treasurer. Barbara has been described as the “Energizer Bunny” and rightfully so. Her list of accomplishments as a volunteer is extremely impressive. Barbara understands that in order to make a difference, you have to be involved. Her commitment, dedication and leadership abilities are outstanding. Barbara has energy that is contagious and her approach to perfection is right on tract. Her motives are pure and in the best interest of the children. Congratulations Barbara and thank you for making a difference!
