Benefits and Beyond

Virginia Lottery

V Bug with Virginia Lottery 4c on white optIn FY19, the Virginia Lottery recorded its biggest year yet, with sales reaching over $2.29 billion and profits totaling nearly $650 million. The record profits represent a seven percent increase over last year and are equivalent to about $1.78 million per day for public education in the Commonwealth generated by the Lottery. Here’s Governor Northam’s official announcement.

Approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s education budget comes from the Lottery. Virginia’s Constitution requires that all Virginia Lottery profits be deposited in the Lottery Proceeds Fund, from which the General Assembly makes appropriations in support of K-12 public education programs. Programs supported include school breakfast, K-3 class-size reduction and early reading intervention, to name a few.

PTA vs. PTO

Comparing PTA and PTO is like comparing apples and oranges. Both groups work hard for children and their families, but your membership in a PTO isn't the same as membership in PTA.

Student PTSA Membership

Offering Students an Opportunity to be Involved in their Education

The youth of today are genuinely interested in improving their communities and their education. PTSAs actually provide youth members with the opportunity to make a difference.

Who Can Join? Diversity in Membership

Membership is open to anyone who believe in the national PTA Mission and Purpose. The PTA is committed to being inclusive in its efforts to represent and assist all who nurture and educate children.

It not only welcomes but actively seeks in its male and female membership the widest diversity of cultures, races, ethnicities, creeds, and economic and educational status. Today's PTA member is you - mother, father, grandparents, aunt, uncle, sister or brother. You are the next door neighbor, community professionals, and the members of the education community. You don't necessarily have children in school, but you know that children are 100% of the future so you invest in your future and theirs, by joining the PTA.

Many of you continue your investment as active volunteers serving in the school, on committees and as officers. Your membership commitment is why Virginia PTA/PTSA continues to be the third largest congress in the National PTA averaging over 368,000 members annually. Individual members may belong to one or more local units and pay dues in each. Every person who joins a local PTA automatically becomes a member of both the state and National PTA.

Members may go to the Membership Library section for more information on Cultural Diversity in the PTA. This section includes national observances, links to other resources and membership recruitment tips.
