Annual Standards of Affiliation & State/Federal Required Filings
Standards of Affiliation documents should ALL be uploaded to your Givebacks account ANNUALLY.
- JUNE 15
- MONTHLY (1st of month)
- AUGUST 1
- JANUARY 31 (if applicable for your PTA)
- IRS Deadline to provide a Form 1099 to each individual that your PTA paid more than $600 in a calendar year (e.g. after school instructors)
- EVERY 5 YEARS (if applicable for your PTA)
* Units that raised more than $50,000 and have retained an accountant to prepare their filing may request an exemption by submitting the 990 Exemption Request Form

Reflections Student Arts Contest
2026-2027 School Year Reflections Theme: “What My Culture Means to Me”
- September: Virginia PTA Reflections Webinar (exact date TBD)
- Oct/Nov: Students submit entries to local school PTA based on time-line set by school PTA
- Dec 15th: Local Unit first place entries for Council Judging are due to Council PTAs
- Mid-January: Local Unit first place entries for Regional (Non-Council) judging due to Virginia PTA
- Late January: Council winners due to Virginia PTA
- February: Virginia PTA winners announced
- March Virginia PTA Student Awards Celebration
- May: National PTA Winners announced
Reflections 2027-2028 Theme Contest
- November: Theme entries due to Virginia PTA (Entry form coming soon)
- December: Virginia PTA announces Virginia’s winning theme entry
- May: National PTA announces winning theme (see past themes)
Student Scholarship Deadline
- April 1: Virginia PTA Scholarship Applications Due
- April 23: Scholarship Awards announced

State-wide PTA Advocacy
PTA Advocacy happens year round as our local PTAs and Councils follow School Board meetings, and take action locally to increase funding and resources for students.
Annually, PTAs from across the Commonwealth meet-up in Richmond to talk with their state delegates and senators as part of Virginia PTA’s Capitol Day at the General Assembly.
Please note that the National PTA’s Legislative Conference is March 1-3, 2027 in Arlington, VA.

- January 15: Submissions Due for Annual Meeting (Bylaws Amendments & Proposed Resolutions)
- January TBD: Capitol Day at the General Assembly
- March 31: Call to Annual Meeting Proposed bylaws changes & resolutions distributed to Membership.
- March 1 – 3, 2027: National PTA Legislative Conference | Arlington, VA
- TBD: Virginia PTA Annual Meeting | Early Bird Registration opens in December
