Virginia PTA Capitol Day – 2026 Session
Invite your PTA members and their children to meet their legislators and share their experiences in Richmond in January 2026.
Ahead of the visit, we will have virtual training.
Join us in Richmond on Friday, JANUARY 23, 2026 to #TakeAction4Kids!
All PTA members in Virginia are welcome to join us for Capitol Day. Listen to bills be debated. Meet your Legislator. Share your perspective on how policies and funding decisions impact your student and school community. Students are welcome to attend with their parents. Please include their school name on your registration so they can be recognized from the House floor.
Prepare for Virginia PTA Capitol Day
Capitol Day is on Friday this year! We are hoping this provides extra time to meet with legislators in the morning before we meet-up in the House Gallery to watch the start of session, and be recognized by the chamber.
In addition to our traditional in-person Capitol Day on January 23rd, we will also set up virtual legislator meetings with state and federal legislators in February and March.
Virginia PTA and your Council Advocacy Chair will schedule meetings with your legislators and group you with an experienced PTA advocate and others from your region. You can expect each legislator meeting to be 15 minutes with 10-15 minutes to get to your next meeting. You will have a brief opportunity to share your personal perspective, so, prepare by thinking about one example of how a bill or funding would impact your student and/or community. Please plan to wear business clothes (and if possible PTA (Royal) Blue) as well as comfortable walking shoes.
To help you prepare, we have a few learning opportunities.
