Virginia PTA Capitol Day  - 2023 Session

All PTA members are welcome to join us for Capitol Day. Listen to bills be debated. Meet your Legislator. Share your personal stories about how the lack of state education funding has impacted your school. Do you have deteriorated school facilities? Lack internet access? Need more school counselors, mental health resources or social workers? Does your school community need better access to early childhood education, school meals or literacy instruction?

This year, Capitol Day is on a Friday. This is a quieter day with less people in the halls and more opportunities to meet with legislators. In addition to our traditional in-person Capitol Day on January 27th, we are also setting up some virtual legislator meetings in February. If you aren't able to join us in-person, you can still participate in our Virtual Rally on January 12th and a #ConstituentConnection virtual meeting in February.

Join us for an overview of the basics of education funding and Virginia PTA's legislative priorities. We'll also talk about how the General Assembly works, how to participate in Capitol Day, leverage priorities that support student success and how to follow legislation from home.

Virginia PTA Capitol Day (Richmond, General Assembly)
Friday, January 27, 2023 (7:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.)

Register for in-person meetings on January 27th as well as virtual meetings occuring through-out session. Your Council Advocacy Chair will contact registrants with the full list of in-person legislator meetings for January 27th as well as any virtual Constituent Connection meeting opportunities scheduled during February. We suggest that you wear business clothes and PTA (Royal) Blue for legislator meetings and comfortable walking shoes for Capitol Day.  

For those arriving the evening before, we will have an Advocacy Social on Thursday Jan 26th from 7-8pm in the Comfort Suites at Virginia Commons. This will be an informal event to meet-up and prepare for Captiol Day. Discounted room rates are available.

Virginia PTA Constituent Connections (Virtual)
Jan 30-Feb 3 (times will vary)

Join us for virtual meetings with state AND federal legislators. These meetings will be concentrated during the end of January/beginning of February. Meetings dates will vary depending on legislator availability and may also occur in late February/early March. You will be notified as meetings are scheduled. Each meeting will be 15-20 minutes. You are encouraged to dress professionally, have your camera on, and be in a quiet place.
