Members: Whom to Contact
Looking for resources to run your PTA? Need support for a challenge your community is dealing with? Want to highlight a success story? Virginia PTA provides hands-on local support combined with robust training resources and a parent-driven advocacy platform. Here is how best to get in touch.
1. Connect with Your Council PTA First
Council PTAs are chartered by Virginia PTA to serve as a support system and point of collaboration within a specific city or county. Council PTAs are led by elected parent volunteers who live in the city or county that they serve. If you have a question or want to raise a concern, it is generally best to start out by contacting your Council PTA for more personalized and accessible support.
Here is a list of Council PTAs and the cities and counties they serve. (If your city or county does not have a Council, please consider starting a Council PTA!)
2. Request State Officer Support
If your Council PTA cannot help, or your city or county does not have a a Council, please look below for the topic you need assistance with and send an email to the address listed there. Please include your PTA unit name in the subject line.
Note: We strive to reply as swiftly as possible. However, all Virginia PTA officers are volunteers, just like you. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for a reply, as we receive large volumes of email. Also, you should contact your elected state officers via the email addresses and links on this page; please do not contact our state office staff. (Virginia PTA office staff provide administrative support to state officers and do not directly support local units, upload compliance documents, or upload membership lists.)
Operations and Compliance
If you have any questions relating to the annual compliance requirements to remain in “good standing” with the Virginia PTA and maintain your 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, please review the Standards of Affiliation (SOA) instructions before contacting anyone. Below is a rundown of the important guidance on that page. Note that Virginia PTA will automatically upload your 501(c)(3) letter to your Givebacks compliance panel after all compliance items are submitted, including remitting membership dues.
- Executive Board Contact Information
- Membership Lists and Dues Remittance
- IRS Form 990 Tax Filing
- Annual Financial Review
- Proof of Insurance
- Organizational Structure Form
- Request Givebacks Access
- Video: Submit Compliance (SOA) Documents on Givebacks
If, after reviewing the above resources, you still need help, please do the following:
- Contact Givebacks support (Virginia PTA has a dedicated support analyst, and one-on-one help sessions are available).
- Contact your Council PTA (Council officers can often provide more detailed guidance).
- Contact the Vice President of Local Unit Operations at operations@vapta.org.
