Last year, the Lottery contributed more than $779 million to Virginia’s public schools, more than $2.1 million per day. Since 1999, the Virginia Lottery has generated more than $11 billion for Virginia’s public schools. Additionally, we take every opportunity to celebrate all that our teachers do every day to expand the possibilities for Virginia’s future leaders. That’s why we like to go the extra mile for teachers. We do this by sponsoring dozens of professional education organizations, visiting schools with special recognitions and volunteering in classrooms across the state. The Dignity Index is an eight-point scale that scores speech along a continuum from contempt to dignity in as unbiased a manner as possible. By focusing on the sound bites, not the people behind them, the Index attempts to stay true to its own animating spirit: that everyone deserves dignity. Our disagreements aren’t causing the divisions in our country; it’s what we do when we disagree. Do we treat the other side with dignity, or do we treat them with contempt? The first brings us together; the second drives us apart.
Check out The Dignity Index and take the Dignity Pledge to educate others about the dividing power of contempt and the unifying power of dignity; use the Dignity Index to guide your internal communications, especially on difficult internal and external issues; and promote dignified speech on social media and external communications.
